WHY CHOOSE AN EVERFILT SAND MEDIA FILTER?
A sand media filter is a simple and effective solution for purifying water. Most commonly used to remove organic and inorganic debris in both Agricultural and Industrial applications. Minimal moving parts and manufactured in the
USA, means less preventive maintenance for your sand media filter, fewer downtimes, and reduced operational cost.
EVERFILT SAND MEDIA FILTERS vs. COMPETITOR SAND MEDIA FILTERS?
Everfilt's line of sand media filters is available in multiple configurations to meet a wide range of project requirements. Features include stainless steel removable or welded underdrains, side access manways, dual drain ports, and 12” – 60” diameter tanks. Carbon steel models offer an NSF-approved interior coating option, while stainless steel models include a standard sacrificial anode on every tank.
Unlike many competitors, Everfilt® NEVER uses PVC or plastic underdrains or backwash valves. Everfilt® manufactures its own control panels and builds tanks and manifolds in the USA using thicker gauge carbon steel and stainless steel materials for enhanced durability. Everfilt® also offers five system layout options: H-Pattern, Block, Cluster, Centerfeed, and Inline, providing more installation flexibility than competing manufacturers.

Equipment in tough environments constantly battles moisture, chemicals, and the elements, but stainless steel sand media filters or industrial media filters with sacrificial anodes add powerful protection.
These anodes absorb corrosion, extend filter life, and reduce costs, keeping systems running reliably.
Sacrificial Anodes come standard on all Everfilt® stainless steel filtration systems.
*Carbon steel retrofit kits are available upon request.

FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
FOR EVERFILT® SAND MEDIA FILTERS
1. How Often Should Sand Media Filters Be Backwashed?
Backwash frequency depends on water quality, flow rate, and solids loading. Most systems automatically backwash when the differential pressure reaches a pre-set level, typically 5-7 PSI. In cleaner water applications, backwashing may only occur occasionally, while high-solids water sources may require multiple backwashes per day. The Everfilt® 94C-Series control panel also allows backwashing to be initiated by a set time or by manual input. Backwash length is usually 3-4 minutes per tank.
2. How Long Does the Filter Media Last?
Most sand or gravel media lasts between 5-10 years when properly maintained. Media life can vary based on water chemistry, operating pressure, backwash effectiveness, and contamination levels. Periodic inspection is recommended to check for media fouling, channeling, or breakdown. Recommendation is to add 1” of sand per year to each tank.
3. What Maintenance is Required for a Sand Media Filter?
Routine maintenance typically includes:
-
Monitoring pressure differential
-
Verifying proper backwash operation
-
Inspecting valves & controls
-
Checking media condition
-
Flushing accumulated debris from the system
Regular maintenance helps maintain filtration efficiency and extends the life of the equipment.
4. What Micron Size Can a Sand Media Filter Remove?
Standard SM and SSM sand media filters effectively remove particles in the 30-40 micron range when using sand and gravel. Lower-level filtration is available when paired with a correctly sized media vessel. Bed depth (contact time) and flow rate must be considered when achieving lower-level filtration. Finer filtration can be achieved by using specialized media blends or adding secondary filtration downstream.
5. Do You Use Plastic Underdrains?
No, Everfilt® never uses plastic (PVC) underdrains. All Everfilt® underdrains are stainless steel wedge wire
in construction, and come with welded and removable capabilities depending on the system model or custom requirements.
