Winterizing the Unit

For winterizing your sand media filter, we recommend draining all water from the system to help prevent freezing and potential damage to the equipment.

Please follow the steps below:

Filter System: If the filter system is being stored with media inside the tanks, drain all water from the system. Loosen the clamp and gasket on the top of each tank to allow some air into the tanks. The covers can remain in place.

Y-Strainer: Located on the top inlet manifold is a Y-strainer (black plastic component). The end of the strainer has a twist-off cap. This cap can be removed during winter storage to help allow air to circulate through the system.

Operating During Freezing Temperatures: If the unit will need to remain operational during the winter or in freezing temperatures, you may want to consider using air to actuate the valves instead of water. Warming jackets with wire-trace heating are another option to help protect components from freezing.

Control Panel & Internal Components: The control panel and internal components are not affected by the winterization process and can remain as they are.
