Expanding Everfilt’s Iron Removal Media Portfolio with Katalox-Lite®
Image is for illustrative purposes only, not indicative of actual product.

At Everfilt®, our approach has always been centered around one principle: selecting filtration media based on the specific requirements of each application rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution, like many competitors. With the addition of Katalox-Light® to our portfolio of iron removal media, customers now have access to an expanded range of proven treatment technologies, including DMI-65® and Greensand Plus™.

Each filtration media offers unique advantages, and the ideal choice depends on factors such as water chemistry, system requirements, maintenance goals, and operating costs. By adding Katalox-Light®, Everfilt® can continue to provide more customized recommendations and engineer solutions that align with each project’s individual challenges.

Why Katalox-Lite® Was Added to Our Product Line

Water treatment requirements continue to become more complex, creating a growing need for filtration media that can manage higher contaminant levels, reduce maintenance demands, and provide broader treatment capabilities. Katalox-Light® expands Everfilt’s capabilities by offering a highly versatile media option for applications where multiple contaminants must be treated while maintaining strong filtration efficiency.

This addition does not replace DMI-65® or Greensand Plus™. Instead, it provides another effective option within Everfilt’s treatment toolbox, allowing our engineers to select the most appropriate technology based on the customer’s specific water conditions.

How Katalox-Light® Performs

Katalox-Light® is a lightweight zeolite-based filtration media enhanced with a manganese dioxide coating. This active coating supports oxidation reactions that help remove dissolved contaminants from water.

The media works through two primary processes:

  • Catalytic oxidation of dissolved iron & manganese

  • Mechanical filtration of oxidized particles

Its highly porous structure provides substantial surface area for contaminant capture, allowing for increased solids retention, longer operating cycles, and potentially fewer backwash requirements compared with some conventional media.

Applications Where Katalox-Light® Provides Advantages

  1. High Iron Removal Applications

Katalox-Light® is well suited for water sources containing elevated iron levels where media capacity and performance consistency are important considerations.

  1. Combined Iron & Manganese Treatment

For water containing both iron and manganese, Katalox-Light® can provide an effective single-media approach in properly designed systems.

  1. Hydrogen Sulfide Reduction

Katalox-Light® can also assist in reducing hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), making it a strong option for well water applications affected by sulfur odors.

  1. Arsenic Treatment Support

When used with the correct pretreatment and oxidation strategy, Katalox-Light® may contribute to arsenic reduction applications.

  1. Fine Particle Filtration

The media’s large surface area and porous structure allow it to capture smaller precipitated particles, improving filtration performance in demanding applications.

Municipal & Industrial Systems

Katalox-Light® is particularly beneficial for systems requiring:

  • Extended media service life

  • Higher solids-handling capacity

  • Lower maintenance requirements

  • Reliable filtration performance

Comparing Katalox-Light® with Existing Everfilt® Media DMI-65®

DMI-65® continues to be a leading catalytic filtration media for iron and manganese removal, especially in systems where oxidation is already established.

It is often preferred when:

  • Chlorination is already part of the treatment process

  • Continuous oxidation is required

  • Municipal systems need consistent catalytic performance

  • Long media life is a priority

Key advantages:

  • Strong catalytic performance

  • Excellent durability

  • Proven results in continuous oxidation applications

  • Successful history in municipal treatment systems

Greensand Plus™

Greensand Plus™ remains a widely recognized and dependable technology for iron and manganese removal.

It is commonly selected for applications where:

  • Potassium permanganate regeneration is acceptable

  • Existing infrastructure uses greensand-based technology

  • Contaminant levels are moderate

Key advantages:

  • Established treatment technology

  • Reliable iron and manganese removal

  • Suitable for retrofit projects

Katalox-Light®

Katalox-Light® is especially valuable for more challenging treatment scenarios where additional filtration capacity and contaminant reduction are required, and can also provide filtration of sand, suspended solids and sediment down to 3 micron.

It may be recommended when:

  • Iron concentrations are elevated

  • Hydrogen sulfide is present

  • Arsenic is present

  • Radium is present

  • Radionuclides Reduction

  • Heavy metals reduction

  • Fine solids removal is needed

  • Longer filtration cycles are desired

  • Reduced backwashing is beneficial

  • Multiple contaminants must be addressed at the same time

Its lightweight design also simplifies handling and installation while maintaining strong mechanical durability.

How Everfilt® Selects the Right Media

Everfilt® does not simply select a media based on popularity.

Each application is evaluated using several important factors, including:

  • Iron concentration

  • Manganese concentration

  • Hydrogen sulfide levels

  • pH conditions

  • Dissolved oxygen availability

  • Oxidation requirements

  • Flow rates

  • Backwash capabilities

  • Maintenance expectations

  • Total operating costs

These variables determine which filtration media will provide the best long-term performance and value.

Everfilt’s Expanded Filtration Approach

By offering DMI-65®, Greensand Plus™, and Katalox-Light®, Everfilt® can provide more flexible and application-specific treatment solutions across agricultural, municipal, commercial, and industrial markets. This expanded selection allows our engineering team to design systems that improve efficiency, reduce maintenance requirements, and support reliable long-term operation. From a technical perspective, adding Katalox-Light® strengthens Everfilt’s ability to address complex water treatment challenges.

DMI-65® remains an excellent choice for applications requiring strong catalytic oxidation performance, while Greensand Plus™ continues to serve as a dependable solution for traditional iron and manganese removal needs. Katalox-Light® adds another level of flexibility for projects involving higher contaminant loads, combined treatment requirements, or increased filtration demands.

With its combination of catalytic activity, solids-handling capability, and ability to support iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, and suspended solids removal, Katalox-Light® represents a versatile addition to Everfilt’s filtration solutions. Ultimately, expanding the Everfilt® media portfolio reinforces our commitment to designing systems around each customer’s unique water challenges.

By offering multiple proven technologies, we can deliver optimized treatment solutions that improve performance, reduce lifecycle costs, and ensure every system is engineered for the application, not limited by a single filtration approach.
