The paper and pulp industry depends on water. From pulping and washing to bleaching and cooling, nearly every stage of production relies on clean, properly managed process water.

When a bottle of wine wins awards or a whiskey develops a loyal following, most of the credit goes to the vineyard, the grain, the barrel, or the people making it. Water rarely enters the conversation, despite being involved at nearly every stage of production.

Rocks don't usually get much attention. We hike over them, landscape with them, skip them across lakes, and maybe even collect a few that look especially cool on vacation or as a pet. But on National Rock Day, it's worth taking a minute to appreciate these everyday geological wonders for something they don't get nearly enough credit for: helping make clean water possible.
