Activated Media Filters
Water often contains unwanted substances that are present as “dissolved solids”. Dissolved solids are defined as those smaller than 0.5 micron. They cannot be removed by sand filters, dual-media filters or by multi-media filters.
Examples of dissolved substances often found in water sources such as ground water, river water or lake water include:
- Iron
- Manganese
- Hydrogen sulfide
- Arsenic
- Odor
- Unpleasant taste
- Color
- Hardness
Wastewaters often contain dissolved substances that need to be removed prior to discharge or re-use. Examples include:
- Oils
- Hydrocarbons
- Dyes
- Soaps
- Solvents
- BOD
- Heavy metals

Removing such substances requires use of “activated media”. These media have properties that allow them to remove specific unwanted substances. They work by means of adsorption, absorption or ion exchange, and must be replaced periodically.
Everfilt engineers specify the type of activated media suitable for each application and then size the filter system based on the operating parameters specified by the manufacturer of each media.

Units are skid-mounted, and factory assembled, wired and tested. They are delivered ready for installation. Piping, valves, pressure gauges, filter media and accessories are included with the filter system.
Solar power, media air scour, and rinse cycle are available as options. Filter capacities are from 5 GPM to 14 MGD. Chemical injection packages, settling tanks, clarifiers, and disinfection units are also available.
